Shit I Bought and Liked: On My Eye in June
From shoulder bags to workout clothes, here's what's on my eye this month
Shitters! Happy June!
These On My Eye newsletters are usually just for paid subscribers at the start of each month, but this time around I wanted to open it up to everyone to give you all a taste of the fun we have here!
I’m coming to you live from my new apartment in New York (!) where it’s bright and warm, but despite nature’s best attempts to get me up and moving, I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately. I’m taking it day by day and trying my best to do little things that make me feel good—quick workouts at home (I’ve been loving SOTO Method’s 20-30 minute classes), gua sha in the morning, and a manageable amount of unpacking/straightening up each day, rather than trying to get everything done and settled all at once.
Funk or not though, I still have a wishlist going—wouldn’t be me without one!—and many a new thing has joined over the past month (unfortunately for my new apartment, virtually none of them are home furnishings…), but without further ado, here’s what’s on my eye this month:
Gucci Jackie 1961: This bag has been on my radar for a while, but it shot up my wishlist after I tried it on in Florence last month. I originally came into the store wanting to see the new small Horsebit bag, but I found the shape to be rather bulky for a bag that’s supposed to fit under your arm. This, on the other hand, is the perfect shape and size to wear on your shoulder for a night out (I have overdone it on the casual daytime bags—my next purchase has to be for night!). Plus it has a really timeless feel. I ended up coming home with a totally different bag (it’s Bottega, it’s a beauty, and I know I’ll have it forever), but this one is still on my mind! If it stays there for long enough, I might have to grab it over the holidays or the next time I take a trip somewhere with less sales tax than America. While I was there, I also tried on a gorgeous croc version, but I was politely informed of the 25,000 Euro price tag, so our love affair came to a rather abrupt end…
Free People Movement Workout Tee: Over the past couple years I’ve figured out my sports bra situation, tracked down the most flattering bike shorts, and found my all-time favorite leggings. But I’m still in need of some less-than-10-year-old tanks and t-shirts for exercise. I love this option from FP Movement—it’s slightly oversized and billowy, but still cropped to the perfect length for leggings and bike shorts. Plus, their fabrics are super soft and comfortable. Honorable mention for this baby tee that will probably sneak its way into the order too.
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream: I was hoping this would be one of those products I could find in Italy and get the VAT refund on, but on sale at Bergdorf’s is a close second! I’ve been using Dieux’s Instant Angel for a minute now, which as far as high-quality, semi-affordable moisturizers go, is great, but I’ve heard enough rave reviews of Bader’s TCF complex to be very curious about this brand—I feel like it’s pretty much the new La Mer?? It’s definitely a treat, but as far as treats go, skincare feels like a gift that keeps on giving. Plus, if it’s too rich for my skin, I think my mom would be more than happy to take it off my hands.
Survey Says!
Welcome to my favorite part of this newsletter! Each month we do a poll of some kind—which do you prefer, which is the dupe, etc. And it’s always so fun and illuminating to see what you all think.
Before we get into this month’s poll, we need to talk about last month’s! Most of you ended up thinking my $130 dupes were The Row! I’ll admit I did try to pick the best possible photos to make it a little more challenging, but I wasn’t expecting that result! But that’s why I’m loving these polls, and I hope you are too!
On to this month—you now know how much I like the Gucci Jackie, but it’s also the perfect example of why I love shopping in-person—you get to try things that you didn’t come in looking for and that based on photos, you might not have picked for yourself, but you end up really loving! The Prada Cleo is another popular bag with a very similar shape, and now that I know how much I like that shape, I want to try the Cleo on to compare (I won’t get too far ahead of myself quite yet! I won’t be making another bag purchase for a minute). But while I have you all, I want to know—which do you like best?!
Drop your reasoning in the comments please! I love talking about bags—I’d do it all day if you’d let me!
That’s all for now, but I’ll be back veryyyy soon with the next installment of Shit I Bought and Liked (it wouldn’t be June without a little birthday wishlist, now would it… 😏). As always, if you found something you like, let me know! I love hearing your thoughts and what you’re looking for. Especially if you need bag feedback—after our black bag roundup earlier this year, a few of you reached out for an opinion on some of your big bag decisions, and I LOVED weighing in, so if you have any more quandaries of that variety, drop a line! Always happy to help!!!
xx,
Priyanka
The Prada is just a little boring looking - as if any dupe of it would look the same and not that exciting. The Jackie has that buckle detail that gives it a little more ooomph! I can imagine though that the Prada would be slightly more comfortable to wear as it is cut a little lower than the Jackie.
I adore the Jackie. My mother was lusting after it for a number of months as she marked a big birthday but the lack of zip put her off. She went for the horsebit which she adores in a beautiful pink / cream colourway. We also are both obsessed with the Gucci Diana. I love the brown, she loves the navy and I adore the green bamboo top handle bag. It is just so cute.
