shit i bought and liked no. 75: carrie bradshaw meets kim kardashian meets me
Shitters!
I hope re-entry into the real world post-long weekend/this summer is not entirely crushing your soul treating you alright. Today’s recommendation is sadly not black bike shorts (I’m currently putting my finalists through some walks/workouts/washes to see how they hold up), but it did come out of nowhere to really surprise/impress me, so I’m excited to share!
By now most of you know that I’m biiiig into sleep/loungewear. I’ve recommended these sleep shorts (which have since risen dramatically in price…the Shitter effect), this (perpetually on sale) Eberjey dupe, even real Eberjeys (well, I haven’t actually recommended these yet, but they do make great chemises if you’re into that kind of thing). I wasn’t even really in the market for anything new, but while restocking on Skims, I was met by a hot model styled in a perfect look that I suddenly had to have. What can I say… it happens to the best of us.
I don’t even know how I made it onto this particular product page because I’m really not one for “briefs,” but there, five photos down in the product photos, is a model wearing them with this tank and immediately I was sold. Never mind that my torso is not that long, my boobs are not that big, and my stomach is not that flat. Who cares!!!! That photo is the kind that gets you to suspend disbelief long enough to hit “Add to Cart,” no questions asked. Get that model a raise!
It’s the kind of casual, sexy, minimalist get up I could picture myself wearing to bed on a hot summer night, with definite bonus points for reminding me a little of Carrie Bradshaw at the start of the first SATC movie when she’s reading her library book in briefs (I refuse to call them granny panties), a silk camisole, and (because it wouldn’t be a Carrie outfit without something wacky) a string of pearls. The whole look is a bit absurd (Mikimotos to bed???), but I’ve always loved it, which is kinda how I feel about the franchise.
Anyways. The tank and briefs entered my cart along with the beloved cotton jersey underwear I originally came for (more on them/my other favorite styles in my original Skims review, in which I also grapple with purchasing from Kim) and a few scoopneck bralettes. (IMO the scoop is such a comfy, flattering bra for fall/winter or to wear while lounging at home, but I’d skip wearing outside in the summer unless you are some kind of superhuman who does not sweat.)
My rational brain knew that this set probably wouldn’t look the same on me as it did on the aforementioned model, but I ended up being more than pleasantly surprised when it arrived! Like all Skims, the underwear is soooo soft and comfortable, but this TANK!!!! Omg. It really steals the show. The fabric is stretchy and soft, but unlike regular cotton tank tops that are either bulky and shapeless, or super thin and unforgivingly skintight, this one skims the body and holds you in a little bit, making it infinitely more flattering while still being super comfortable. It hits right at your waist, which looks great paired with the briefs or with high-waisted pants. And not to fully kiss ass here, but I really haven’t come across a tank that’s that flattering without being a full-on bodysuit (will this get me on the Skims gifting list???). Bonus points for the set getting the boyfriend’s stamp of approval.
Now briefs to bed are not particularly revolutionary, but I love the feeling of being in a matching set and this one is the perfect balance between comfy and chic and a little sexy. I will definitely be going back for the combo (that Kyanite blue is speaking to me…), and perhaps even a longer tank now that I have been fully indoctrinated into the cult of Skims.
I could end here, but I also have a loungewear rec for the men of this newsletter courtesy of my brother (!!!), who showed up to my parents house the other night in this very chic pullover! It’s the softest kind of french terry in the perfect oatmeal color, and if I didn’t know better I would’ve already tried to steal it for myself. It’s really more of a unisex option depending on your fit preferences.
That’s all I have for you today. I promise next time around we’ll be talking bike shorts! But in the meantime, let me know what you want to see more of, what you want reviewed, what you need recs for, etc! I didn’t get a business Amex for nothing*, people! (*I definitely didn’t get it to shop, please do not send me to IRS jail.)
Xoxo,
Priyanka
