Shit I Bought and Liked: I Caved In To Prime Day...
Shitters! If you are humans on the internet, by now you are probably well aware of the fact that it is Amazon Prime Day (which they have now stretched to two days, only one of which is actually prime…).
I’ll be honest with you, Prime Day has been off my radar for a minute now, and I’ve been more than okay with that! Last year, I was blissfully unaware of its passing while on vacation, and I hope to be doing the same in the future—it really is the perfect time of year to skip town. But being home and online meant that I had to at least do a little browse through Jeffy B’s little shop of mostly unnecessary garbage.
Going in, I was only really interested in the essentials (how could I resist my dishwasher pods at 30% off…), but I did end up making a rather large purchase at a rather large discount: This walking pad.
I know, I know—this very well may fall into the category of aforementioned mostly unnecessary garbage, but I did think long and hard about how and when I’d use this before checking out, so just hear me out here.
Walking pads are basically mini, semi-portable treadmills that you can plug in under your desk, counter, or in front of your TV to get some steps in while you work or scroll Instagram or binge watch Top Chef—pick your poison. They don’t incline or go nearly as fast a treadmill (they’re also significantly smaller)—they’re designed primarily for walking at a comfortable or slower pace while you do otherwise sedentary activities.
Aside from the work-from-home/scrolling portions of the day, I also see a lot of use for this on those days when you don’t want to spend time outside because of excessive heat/ humidity/ cold/ rain/ pollution from Canadian wildfires (at the rate our planet is going, that will likely not be a one-time thing), etc. I now live in a place with full-fledged seasons—some of which don’t exactly make for an amazing time in the great outdoors—but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to move my body. And not just during a quick workout before sitting on the couch (my completely non-ergonomic writing location of choice) for the rest of the day.
I’ve had my eye on these for a while and a friend of mine vouched for this model specifically, which was hugely helpful. The reviews are pretty positive (though can we trust an Amazon review these days?), plus I love that it folds up, meaning that storage in small spaces gets a lot easier, and that the assembly is extremely minimal.
Does buying one of these make sense for everyone? No! Even with nearly $150 off, it’s definitely not cheap, while walking outside is completely free. It also probably doesn’t make sense if you’re not home much in the first place, or if you already know this will just sit in a closet gathering dust. But I work entirely from home and I know I like to get a walk in, even when the weather’s not great for it or on the busy days when I don’t have that much time to get outside, so I thought this would be worth a try.
If that’s you too and this sounds interesting, consider it! I’ll also report back on how I’m liking it after I have it for a bit, so you can also wait for that if you’d rather. But in case you want to take advantage of the sale price, I wanted to let you know while it’s still on.
And because Prime Day seems to have prompted every other company to run a sale this week, here are a few other things I’m grabbing (or have already, but wish I waited for the discount!): These adjustable dumbbells (a godsend for at-home workouts), a vintage-y Doen number to wear over swimsuits on vacation, my current favorite jeans in black, and some OG Shit I Bought and Liked circa 2020 (the intro to that post is a throoooowback).
But as always, just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean you have to jump. If you’re forgoing some of this sale shopping in favor of other goals (saving, budgeting, not avoiding the Chase app like the plague), more power to you! I really try to be thoughtful before adding new things to my closet/home/life, and I encourage you all to do the same!
That’s it for today! If you scored anything exciting for Prime Day or otherwise, let me know! I’ll be back soon with more exciting things shortly! In the meantime, questions/comments/feedback, etc. are all encouraged in the comments or by responding to this email—I always love hearing from you!
xo,
Priyanka
