Shitters… do you ever get hit with the urge to make some home improvements?? Maybe it’s just my age/stage of life, but over the past few years I’ve been (slowly!) making upgrades and forever purchases across my closet and kitchen, and lately I’ve wanted to do more of that around the house. Unfortunately for me though, I’m currently in a bit of lease limbo, so the timing isn’t exactly ideal for any big changes furniture or decor-wise...
BUT there is one thing that stays consistent from apartment to apartment, home to home—you’ll always have a bed, and if you’re like me, you’ll always want it to be the comfiest, coziest spot in your home—lease schedules be damned! After thinking about it for a while, this past month I made a LONG-awaited bedding refresh, and if you’ve been considering one too, I really could not recommend it more. I didn’t realize how badly it was needed until I did it!
As far as bedding goes, I’ve always been a linen girl. Maybe it’s from my years in LA? There’s just something about the casual look and cozy feel that’s so much more inviting to me than regular cotton sheets, and even though it’s a summer-y fabric, I still find that it keeps you cozy during the winter. Plus, fluffy white linen duvets will always make me feel like I’m sleeping on a cloud (or at a Nancy Meyers beach house, which is my personal version of heaven).
When it comes to linen sheets, no one does it better than Brooklinen. Theirs are insanely soft and high-quality, hold up well to years of use and washes (they get better with time IMO), and though a set is an investment, I’ve always thought it was worth it for something you (hopefully?) spend six to eight hours a night in. Plus, they’re offering major discounts at the moment to sweeten the deal! When I was first shopping, I actually tried a sample from a pricier competitor, but I was shocked at how much thinner and stiffer it was. That was five years ago, and I’ve been loyal to Brooklinen ever since!

While their linen was my first love, it wasn’t my last. Despite spending so much time considering my sheets and duvet cover, I spent virtually none on my comforter (or duvet insert—whichever term you prefer).
As an allergic girl, I’ve always had down-alternative bedding, but I never paid much attention beyond that to what it was made out of or where I got it from. The one I had been using up until recently was super flat and synthetic-feeling—I thought at the time that it was just the best I could do with down-alternative, and that my only solution would be to double up with a second one, like interior decorators suggest. But buying another not-so-great comforter on top of the one I already didn’t love was not sitting well with me. I decided to try Brooklinen’s version instead to see if a nicer one would make any difference—as could’ve probably been expected, they were WORLDS apart!
Right out of the box, this just felt different to me. The fill is lightweight and voluminous (look at that photo!), the cotton-sateen fabric is soft to the touch, and I especially love that it doesn’t trap heat. I tend to run warm when I sleep, but I still love the feeling of snuggling into a blanket or comforter at night. I’ve found that the all-seasons version lets me get cozy without overheating, even during the summer.
I wouldn’t have thought that switching out duvet inserts would make as big a difference as it has, but I’ve been really impressed with this one. In general, if you’re considering making a change to your bedding, don’t overlook this part—it’s been such an upgrade to my bed both visually and in feel.
Other things I’ve been loving: As long as we’ve got a discount, I have two other Brooklinen faves—this silk eye mask (I use nightly and for long flights), and the softest waffle robe I’ve ever tried (the white version makes me feel like I’m in a spa). THE OLYMPICS!!! I have the best memories of watching them with my family growing up, and I’m having so much fun getting into it again this year! The young meme-rs making the internet fun again!!! 🥥 These single-serve lattes are soooo insanely good (so is the milk itself if you prefer to make your own coffee—this one’s my favorite). I was captivated by this look into the machinations of influencing by Jess Graves of The Love List, as well as the ensuing conversation. Her style and her Substack always inspire me! I keep dreaming about the divine prosciutto burrata sandwich at Radio Bakery—who’s coming to Greenpoint with me for my next one?
This newsletter was written in partnership with Brooklinen! Full disclosure, this is my first big newsletter partnership (!!!) and I’m thrilled to be working with a brand that I use, love, and spend my own money on.
For discerning consumers, I know partnerships can raise doubts sometimes, but I want you all to know that I have never and will never promote anything that I don’t genuinely love, sponsored or otherwise. It’s the whole premise of this newsletter, and to me, it’s really not worth compromising your trust (or my word!) for anything I don’t believe in. Thank you all for being here, and thank you to Brooklinen for supporting what we do!
You must get both! Haha my daughter complains about the G shutdown daily, hope it gets back up and running soon so you both can get your Radio Bakery fix as much as possible!
Oh my god! I was visiting my daughter and her gf in Brooklyn last week and we made the pilgrimage to Radio Bakery! even though the G shutdown is wreaking havoc) honestly the best bakery I have ever been to, and I live in LA so there is a lot to choose from. I adored the earl grey morning bun and the ham, cheese and butter sandwich - tried to convince the group to go with the burrita, but it didn’t happen. If I wasn’t in LA I would go with you every day for the next year, lol
